Parents of a Unification Church member filed a 17 million yen lawsuit Wednesday against the organization, alleging it caused their family to fracture.
The lawsuit, filed at the Tokyo District Court, says the religious group has harmed the family by controlling the daughter, 38, and luring her into making large financial contributions.
The parents, who have asked not to be named, also are demanding the Unification Church let them see their daughter once a month for two hours. They said they have been unable to get in touch with her since September 2004 after she ran away from her husband.
