A 30-year-old man has been charged of defrauding a woman out of about 1 million yen by pretending to be an airline pilot needing to borrow money for business, police said Tuesday.
Shunsuke Tomisato stands accused of taking the money between 2002 and 2004. He told her he was a helicopter pilot with United Airlines and the two began dating.
He had been arrested previously on suspicion of defrauding another woman of 3.3 million yen but was never charged, police said.
They suspect Tomisato similarly has conned some 20 women of about 40 million yen.
In the current case, Tomisato told the woman he needed to borrow money for deals with a Japanese company to provide helicopter maintenance and said he would get her the money in three months, police said.
