Takashimaya Co. said Monday it will sell a 66-carat diamond for 1.895 billion yen -- the most expensive jewelry it has ever handled -- at its Nihonbashi department store in Chuo Ward, Tokyo.
The diamond, measuring about 3 cm wide and long, will be displayed at the store's special fair from Wednesday through Sunday featuring various diamonds from around the world.
Other jewelry on display will include a 115.5 million yen vest made of 18-carat gold and dozens of diamonds. A rare red diamond from Australia will also be exhibited. It carries a 36.75 million yen price tag.
Australia's Argyle mine produces about 40 percent of the world's red diamonds.
