Takashi Suetsuna, an official at the National Police Agency, will assume the post of chief chamberlain to Crown Prince Naruhito on Sept. 6, the Cabinet said at a meeting Friday.
Suetsuna, 56, joined the NPA in 1974 after graduating from the University of Tokyo. He served in the Imperial Guard Headquarters in 1982 as section chief of the security detail for then Crown Prince Akihito, who is now the Emperor.
He was a first secretary at the Japanese Embassy in London when Crown Prince Naruhito studied at Oxford University in 1983.
