Zensho Co., which runs the the Sukiya fast-food restaurant chain, said Friday it has successfully completed a tender offer to acquire a controlling stake in the fast-food chain Nakau Co.
Zensho said its Nakau stake will rise to 60 percent from 33 percent due to 21-day tender offer, which ended Thursday, making Nakau a consolidated subsidiary as of Aug. 5.
At the end of June, the Sukiya and Nakau chains had a total of 874 restaurants serving "gyudon" beef-on-rice dishes and other rice-based items, making the combination the second-largest gyudon business, after Yoshinoya D&C Co.
Zensho, which spent 1.1 billion yen to get a controlling stake in Nakau, plans to maintain the Nakau brand for some time.
