Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc. and Culture Convenience Club Co., which operates Tsutaya, Japan's largest video rental shop chain, said Wednesday they will set up a DVD planning and sales company in early August.
The new company, to be named TC Entertainment, will have a capital of 100 million, yen for which the TV broadcaster will invest 51 percent and CCC 49 percent.
The company is to maximize profits from video software by utilizing CCC's marketing knowhow and promotion capability based on Tsutaya's 18.51 million members as well as past and future TBS programs and video content, the two companies said.
TC Entertainment will begin its business by converting past TBS programs into DVDs and selling them to Tsutaya members as well as general consumers.
