The rainy season appears to be over in a large portion of Honshu stretching from the western tip of the Chugoku region to the Kanto plain surrounding the Tokyo metropolitan area, the Meteorological Agency said Monday.

Other areas in Honshu where wet weather appears to have abated include the Tokai and Kinki regions, in addition to Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures, the agency said.

Compared with last year, the rainy season ended five days later in Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures and the Kanto region.

Compared with an average year, however, it ended two days earlier in Yamanashi and Nagano, and in the Kanto, Chugoku and Tokai regions, including Shizuoka and Aichi prefectures.

In the Kinki region, which surrounds Osaka Prefecture, the rainy season ended a day earlier than usual.

On Sunday, the agency said the rainy season appeared to have ended in northern Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture.
