The All Nippon Airways group and a Japan Airlines affiliate canceled 14 domestic flights Saturday to check the engines on all Bombardier DHC-8-400 planes after one made an emergency landing in June because smoke had filled the cockpit and cabin, the airlines said.

The flights were canceled as five of the twin-engine propeller planes owned by the ANA group and Japan Air Commuter were found to have similar defects to the one that made the emergency landing. The defects were found in three of the ANA group's eight Canadian-made Bombardier planes and two of four planes at Japan Air Commuter.
