Tokyo prosecutors on Wednesday searched the headquarters of Japan Highway Public Corp. in connection with their investigation into massive bid-rigging for bridge construction projects.
Some 80 prosecutors entered the Japan Highway offices in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, at around 1:15 p.m. Prosecutors searched dozens of sites, including three private firms, investigative sources said.
The move came after the Fair Trade Commission filed an accusation with the public prosecutor general against three bridge builders — Yokogawa Bridge Corp., Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. — alleging they colluded to rig bids for projects financed by the public corporation.
