The government, hosting a seminar on human trafficking that has drawn officials from about 50 countries, called Monday for a unified stand to fight the problem.
"Measures compiled by a single country are not sufficient to effectively deal with the issue," Keishiro Fukushima, parliamentary foreign secretary, said at the outset of the Tokyo seminar.
Cooperation is necessary among countries in which the victims of human-trafficking originate, countries relaying them and countries which are their destinations, he said.
Japan aims to demonstrate its efforts to combat human-trafficking to the international community during the event.
