JSAT Corp., Japan's largest communications satellite operator, said Monday it and PanAmSat Corp. of the United States will launch a communications and broadcast satellite in 2007 to cater primarily to subscribers in the New York area.
JSAT and PanAmSat, the world's third-largest communications satellite operator, embarked on the project in anticipation of expanded demand for high-definition television broadcasts and satellite-based Internet protocol video transmissions, the Japanese company said.
They will set up a holding company, Horizons Satellite Holdings LLC, next month to oversee overall operations.
