Sony and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. are leading a group promoting Blu-ray discs for next-generation DVDs, while Toshiba and NEC Corp. are supporting the HD-DVD format.
If the battle is prolonged, it could have a negative impact on the spread of next-generation DVDs.
