The ruling coalition's bill on bank-card crimes offers a quick and effective solution to what has become society's largest problem in recent years, according to Yoichiro Esaki, head of the Liberal Democratic Party subcommittee dealing with the issue.

Esaki made the remarks in a recent interview, saying why the bill, which requires financial institutions to compensate funds stolen through bank card forgeries and thefts, does not cover losses stemming from bankbook thefts and online crime.

Victims of crimes and their lawyers have said that a wider range of crimes involving bank accounts should be compensated.
