Yamato Transport Co. will offer overseas delivery of printed material in the same amount of time Japan Post promises , but at a lower rate, company officials said Tuesday.

Yamato Transport will offer the new service at 70 locations nationwide starting July 1, eventually increasing to about 3,000 locations, the officials said.

Delivery of printed material, including magazines and catalogs, will take four to 14 days, almost the same as that of the public postal corporation, the officials said.

Yamato Transport will contract delivery at the overseas destinations to local mail-service providers, they said.

Sending a 300-gram document to other parts of Asia will cost 400 yen, 540 yen for North and Central America, Oceania, Europe, and the Middle East, and 700 yen for South America and Africa, all of which are 60 yen to 70 yen cheaper than Japan Post's rates, they said.

DHL, the logistics and express delivery business of Germany's Deutsche Post AG, and United Parcel Service Inc. of the United States, the world's largest package delivery firm, also offer overseas delivery service for printed matter in Japan.
