Asian Development Bank President Haruhiko Kuroda repeated his call Tuesday for Beijing to adopt a less rigid currency regime at an early date because it would benefit China and the rest of the world.

"In the past two, three years, I have argued that Chinese authorities are well-advised to change their exchange rate regime to make it more flexible," he said during a press luncheon at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan.

"Exchange rate adjustments should be made sooner rather than later," he said, although he pointed to the need for the pace of such adjustments to be "gradual."
