A Japanese man now serving a 15-month sentence in the United States will seek 5 million yen in damages from TV Asahi for defamation for airing a report that he was illegally selling guns.

Kozo Wada's lawyer said he will file the lawsuit Monday with the Tokyo District Court against the TV broadcaster and a reporter who covered the story.

TV Asahi's "Hodo Station" featured a report in October on gun smuggling into Japan, including a story on Wada, who had been arrested and tried in the U.S. for unlicensed possession and exportation of firearms to Japan.
