The Tax Commission, an advisory panel to the prime minister, said Friday it will study ways to reduce income tax exemptions, including those for homemakers and other nondisabled dependents, to raise revenues and combat the mounting national debt.
Members of the tax panel called the current income tax system outdated and distorted, given the recent rise of new types of households, including double-income couples with no kids and working people who never marry.
Among exemptions to be studied by the panel are regular tax breaks a salaried worker can claim for a spouse who stays at home and works part-time.
