Japan's current account surplus widened 5.2 percent in April on a year-on-year basis to 1.63 trillion yen, marking a second straight monthly increase, the Finance Ministry said Thursday.
The surplus grew because a jump in the income account surplus more than offset a fall in the trade surplus, the ministry said in a preliminary report.
The balance of trade in goods and services posted a surplus of 734.7 billion yen, down 3 percent, it said.
