Police said Thursday they have arrested a South Korean man handed over to Japan under a bilateral extradition treaty in connection with a series of burglaries in Tokyo in 2003 and his possible involvement in a robbery-murder.
Police suspect Kuk Chung Ryol, 53, and his accomplices broke into a home in Yokohama on March 21, 2003, and stole about 1 million yen in cash, among other items. Police have also obtained arrest warrants for Kuk for burglaries in Saitama and Yamanashi prefectures as well.
Kuk and his group are suspected of committing a number of burglaries and robberies in Tokyo around 2001 and are also suspected of breaking into doctors' homes in Tokyo's Suginami Ward in November 2002 and in January 2003.
However, Tokyo police are also investigating Kuk's possible involvement in the robbery-murder of a 65-year-old company president in Setagaya Ward in January 2003.
