The House of Representatives passed a bill Tuesday to update the corporate legal system to facilitate mergers and acquisitions and strengthen measures to stop hostile takeovers.
The government-proposed bill was backed by the Liberal Democratic Party and New Komeito as well as the Democratic Party of Japan and Social Democratic Party.
It was immediately sent to the House of Councilors, which is expected to approve it during the current legislative session.
