Friday's report on compensation related to bank card-related fraud has drawn fire from fraud victims and their lawyers, who claim it fails to adequately address the problem.
Reacting to the report, released by a Financial Services Agency panel, the victims and lawyers stated that losses related to stolen bankbooks should also be compensated.
"Depositors are seeking 'security of deposits' not 'security of ATM transactions'," said Shoji Takamizawa, a lawyer who heads a team of attorneys representing victims of bank card forgeries, card theft and bankbook theft.
