Daiei Inc. is expected to name Yasuyuki Higuchi, 47, current president of Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd., as its new president, company sources said Thursday.
The retailer, struggling to rebuild itself under the state-backed Industrial Revitalization Corp. of Japan, values Higuchi's experience as a management consultant and his familiarity in businesses in the information technology area, they said.
Higuchi, with a master of business administration degree from Harvard University, has been president of Hewlett-Packard Japan since May 2003. He previously served at Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. and Apple Japan Inc.
