IBM Japan Ltd. overtook Fujitsu Ltd. as the top server supplier in Japan in 2004 on a value basis, high-tech equipment market research agency Gartner Japan Ltd. said Wednesday.
IBM Japan posted 140.41 billion yen in shipments in the year, up 8.6 percent from the year before, Gartner Japan said.
Fujitsu lost the top slot for the first time since 1996, when Gartner Japan began compiling relevant statistics.
Fujitsu's server shipments fell 5.4 percent to 128.83 billion yen, according to the Japanese affiliate of Gartner Inc. of the United States.
Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd. remained in third place at 99.12 billion yen, up 2.3 percent.
The Japanese server market as the whole declined 2.3 percent to 612.70 billion yen.
