Toshiba Corp. plans to appoint Senior Managing Director Atsutoshi Nishida, 61, as the company's new president to succeed Tadashi Okamura, 66, who will assume the chairmanship, sources said Friday.
Toshiba Chairman Taizo Nishimuro will become an adviser to the company, the sources said.
The appointments will be made official by a nominating committee at the end of this month and formalized at a board meeting after a general shareholders' meeting in late June, they said.
Nishida has been in charge of Toshiba's personal computer business as head of Toshiba's in-house personal computer and network company.
Nishida helped Toshiba's PC business return to profitability in fiscal 2004 through restructuring measures, including consolidating development and production bases after the division fell into the red in fiscal 2003.
