One-third of the nation's schools have given their students personal alarms to help them from becoming crime victims, while 45 percent have installed security cameras or other surveillance devices, an education ministry survey showed Friday.
Of the elementary schools, over half make students carry the devices, according to the survey, conducted by the Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Ministry.
The nationwide survey was carried out at the end of last March at about 54,000 public and private kindergartens, elementary, junior high and high schools amid an increasing number of crimes targeting children.
