International and nongovernmental organizations urged the government Thursday to use its tsunami-relief aid to help children suffering from posttraumatic stress and to prevent them from becoming victims of human-trafficking.

Representatives from three international organizations in Tokyo, including UNICEF, and eight Japanese NGOs met with Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura to petition the government on how it uses financial assistance.

During the meeting, U.N. officials stressed the importance of registering children at disaster-relief camps to help them find family members and prevent them from being kidnapped, a Japanese official who briefed reporters said.
