Japan will do its best to provide aid and help reconstruction efforts in the Asian countries hit by last month's killer tsunamis, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said Tuesday.
"The Japanese government will carry out reconstruction-support activities to its utmost," he said in his first news conference for the new year at his official residence.
He plans to attend a hastily arranged Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit to discuss tsunami-disaster relief measures.
