A Myanmarese woman who along with her husband was separated from her young children while incarcerated at the Tokyo immigration center for illegal entry said Wednesday she was filled with anxiety and dread during her ordeal.
"I was anxious as the children had been taken away from me, and I was pressured many times to return to my country," Sung, 25, told a news conference. She said her children had been separated from both parents for 20 days.
Sung was released by the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau on Tuesday on condition she post bond. Her husband, Maung, 39, who was detained with her, remains in custody.
The couple married in Japan and had been living in Tokyo with their 1-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter. Immigration officials took Maung into custody in November, and Sung earlier this month. The children were then placed in a Tokyo home for kids.
"The children miss their father and try to go to the entrance of our home when they hear sounds at night. I want our family to be reunited," she said in Japanese.
Sung, who held her daughter throughout the news conference, urged authorities to release her husband.
