Tokyo's Haneda airport on Tuesday reopened Terminal 1's renovated North Wing, allowing Japan Airlines to use both wings of the terminal.
All Nippon Airways moved to the new Terminal 2 on Dec. 1.
The refurbished wing handles check-ins for flights operated by the JAL group to eastern Japan, while the South Wing, which has been used by JAL, has check-in counters for flights to western Japan.
Terminal 1 is also shared by two much smaller airlines -- Skymark Airlines and Skynet Asia Airways.
The renovated terminal has doubled baggage inspection areas to six and JAL now has access to 21 boarding gates, up from 12, eliminating the use of shuttle buses to ferry passengers between the aircraft and the terminal, except for during peak morning and evening times.
The two wings are also connected by buses that run every 15 minutes.
Terminal 2 serves ANA and Hokkaido International Airlines, commonly known as Air Do.
