NHK broadcast a special show Sunday night aimed at restoring public trust following a series of embezzlement scandals involving its employees.
NHK President Katsuji Ebisawa appeared live on the program, which aired from 9 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., to respond to criticism and comments from viewers about the public broadcaster's role and fee system, as well as other issues.
"I would like to reiterate my sincere apologies for damaging public trust" in the broadcaster, Ebisawa said at the start of the program.
