Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday its joint venture with China FAW Group Corp. has launched production of 3-liter gasoline engines in Changchun, Jilin Province.

The joint venture, FAW Toyota Changchun Engine Co., held a ceremony Friday to mark the start of production at its plant Wednesday, Toyota said. It is the first plant to produce engines for Toyota cars in China.

The new plant has an annual production capacity of 130,000 engines and will turn out some 40,000 in 2005 for the Crown and other vehicles assembled by another joint venture, Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Toyota said.
