Roger Allen, a longtime resident of Tokyo and vice chairman of the Foreign Community Support Committee of YMCA in Japan, died Tuesday of heart attack at a hospital in Tokyo. He was 59.
Allen was born in Walsall, England, and lived for about 30 years in Japan, where he became a successful entrepreneur, according to information provided by the National Council of YMCAs of Japan.
He joined the YMCA's Foreign Community Support Committee in 1985 and played a leading role in organizing charity concerts and balls at various embassy residences around Tokyo. He served as chairman of the committee for several years.
Allen is survived by his wife, Barbara, and two children, Dominic and Bianca. A funeral will be held at St. Andrews Church, 3-6-18 Shibakoen, Minato Ward, Tokyo, at 6 p.m. Sunday. A wake will be held between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at the same church.
