NHK TV aired a correction Friday to a program broadcast in 1996 -- one day after the Supreme Court rejected a demand for the correction by a woman who had won redress for defamation committed by the broadcaster on a program that referred to her marriage.

The NHK program, aired on June 8, 1996, featured stories of husbands whose wives unexpectedly told them they wanted divorces.

The case of the 58-year-old woman from Saitama Prefecture was mentioned at the beginning of the special program in the voice-over narration, which said that her husband was suddenly told one day that she wanted a divorce after 21 years of marriage.
