The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry plans to pare its rice output target for 2005 to 8.51 million tons, down 60,000 tons from 2004, ministry officials said Tuesday.
The plan, endorsed by a Liberal Democratic Party farm policy panel, echoes a new projection that rice demand will fall by 80,000 tons to 8.51 million tons by 2005, the officials said.
