The Washington-based Edwin O. Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies celebrated its 20th anniversary Tuesday in Tokyo with an event attended by Japanese and American scholars, diplomats and political and business leaders.
The center, named after the late former U.S. ambassador, is affiliated with the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
Among the guests at the reception, hosted by Kent Calder, director of the center, were former Prime Ministers Yasuhiro Nakasone and Kiichi Miyazawa, former Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi, and Fujio Cho, president of Toyota Motor Corp.
