Advantest Corp. said Tuesday its first-half net profit jumped 12-fold to a record 28.57 billion yen, thanks to robust demand for flat-screen TVs and DVD recorders.
The chip-testing equipment maker's revenue soared 2.4 times to 146.59 billion yen during the April-September period.
The firm said strong sales of digital consumer electronic products as well as a solid personal-computer market prompted its clients to continue making heavy capital investments in semiconductor manufacturing.
Digital products, such as cell-phone handsets, use a number of semiconductors, and Advantest is one of the world's largest suppliers of chip testers.
During the period, the proportion of overseas sales rose to a record 74.3 percent of total revenue, helped by strong sales in the U.S. and Taiwan, the company said.
