Seven men have been arrested for stealing a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in Tokyo last week, police said Tuesday.
The police said they arrested Lee Chih-hsiang, 28, and six accomplices for allegedly stealing a Harley-Davidson from Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, on Friday.
The motorcycle was found dismantled in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture. The police said they suspect the seven, who are Taiwanese, were planning to export the motorcycle.
The police believe the seven are members of a smuggling ring that specializes in stealing Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Police alleged that members of the ring take turns entering Japan to steal motorcycles and send them to Taiwan, where they are sold.
Taiwan lifted its ban on the import and domestic sale of large motorcycles after January 2003, when it became a member of the World Trade Organization.
