Music label Avex Inc. said Tuesday operating officer Masato Matsuura, known as a key promoter of popular singer Ayumi Hamasaki, is now the company's new president.
Matsuura, 39, succeeded Toshio Kobayashi, 39, who became a managing director.
Matsuura's promotion followed his brief departure from the company in August over a conflict with then Avex President and Chairman Tatsumi Yoda over business strategy.
His resignation sent the company's share prices down, while Hamasaki hinted at leaving Avex.
Matsuura returned to the company soon after the stock plunge, while Yoda, 64, stepped down from his posts and became honorary chairman.
