Mazda Motor Corp. said Friday its group sales rose 12.3 percent in the April-June quarter from a year earlier to 642.27 billion yen on brisk overseas sales.
Mazda said its group net profit amounted to 11.61 billion yen and pretax profit came to 16.1 billion yen. Net profit per share was 9.54 yen. Mazda provided no year-on-year profit comparisons as this is the first time it has reported profits on a quarterly basis.
Though retail sales in Japan for the quarter fell 2.6 percent from a year earlier to 60,300 units, sales in the United States rose 11.7 percent to 76,189 units, and those in European countries gained 19.7 percent to 74,895 units, it said.
