Tokyo police said Wednesday they have arrested nine teenagers, including high school students, in Saitama Prefecture for allegedly committing several thefts and burglaries to buy marijuana.

In addition, four other teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of illegally cultivating and selling marijuana to the nine.

Meanwhile, 13 other high school students were taken into custody on suspicion of smoking marijuana and selling it to other students, police said, adding that a teen arrested last fall fingered the suspects.

They alleged that the nine who were arrested stole cash and other items worth some 12.6 million yen between November and April to get money to buy marijuana, paying around 7,500 yen per gram.
