KDDI Corp. unveiled Monday three third-generation handsets on which users can play video games such as "Final Fantasy" and "Dragon Quest."
The Internet-capable handsets, to be released later this month, are part of KDDI's 3G high-speed, large-capacity data transmission service known as CDMA 1X WIN, it said. KDDI operates the au mobile phone service.
KDDI wants to trump the rival 3G mobile service of NTT DoCoMo Inc., known as FOMA, KDDI officials said. The three handsets are the W21SA, W21S and W21K.
The CDMA 1X WIN service has lagged behind the FOMA service in net increases in subscribers.
