Sales of household electrical appliances at Japan's major retailers rose 0.37 percent in May from a year earlier, hitting 150.83 billion yen, the Nippon Electric Big-Store Association said Friday in a preliminary report.
This marks the first increase in three months, the association said.
The association attributed the increase to brisk sales of audiovisual equipment, especially television sets and DVD recorders.
