Fujitsu Ltd. and Sun Microsystems Inc. said Wednesday they plan to jointly develop next-generation computer server systems by 2006 for corporate users by merging their product lines.
Under the plan, the Japanese computer giant and U.S. network computer maker, which have been strategic partners for 20 years, aim to develop a new server system based on Sun's Solaris software and SPARC computer chips.
They will merge their server product lines to create a new line of high-end products.
When completed, the new line will replace Fujitsu's Primepower and Sun's Sun Fire product lines.
