Ten youths have been arrested for allegedly disrupting classes in March by occupying the broadcasting room of their junior high school in Tokyo's Ota Ward, playing the soundtrack of a movie in which junior high students kill each other and calling on their classmates to do the same.

Police said the youths, who now attend high schools and vocational schools, conspired to disrupt classes in an attempt "to become school legends" before graduation.

According to investigators, the 10 entered the broadcasting room at about 11:50 a.m. on March 12, a week before the school's graduation ceremony, using a key they had stolen earlier from the staff room.

They then formed a barricade with desks and aired the soundtrack from the movie "Battle Royale" throughout the school, telling students, "We are now going to have you start killing each other." The latter is a line from the film.

They also attacked five male teachers who tried to put a stop to the ruckus, fracturing one man's rib, police said.

The school suspended afternoon classes and sent students home.
