Toyota Motor Corp. declared the highest amount of corporate income to tax authorities in calendar 2003, holding the top spot for the fourth consecutive year, credit research agency Teikoku Databank Ltd. said in a report released Tuesday.

Toyota, the nation's largest automaker, declared 988.7 billion yen in income, up 5.5 percent from a year earlier.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. was second, declaring income of 348.3 billion yen, followed by Honda Motor Co., which declared 316.3 billion yen, according to Teikoku Databank, which compiles annual rankings of corporate taxpayers.

The number of companies that declared more than 40 million yen in income fell 2.8 percent from the previous year to 71,076, the smallest number since 1988, when Teikoku Databank began compiling data.
