Namco Ltd., a maker of video game software and hardware, said Thursday that its group net profit jumped 83.3 percent to 7.55 billion yen in fiscal 2003.

The firm attributed the rise to strong sales of arcade game equipment and household-use game software.

In a consolidated earnings report for fiscal 2003, Namco said its pretax profit surged 64.4 percent to 14.43 billion yen, on operating revenue of 172.59 billion yen, up 11.5 percent.

Namco said its trade related to arcade game equipment fared well both at home and abroad.

In addition, sales of versatile household-use video game software compatible with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s PlayStation 2 console, Nintendo Co.'s Game Cube machine and Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox game console were buoyant in the North American market, it said.

Per-share net profit soared to 133.00 yen from the previous year's 72.35 yen.

Namco said it will pay a per-share, full-year dividend of 40 yen, including an interim dividend of 15 yen. The full-year amount compares with the previous year's 30 yen.
