Japan Post said Wednesday that, beginning Sept. 1, it will charge 1,000 yen for reissuing postal savings cards if customers lose or damage them.
The government-backed corporation will levy the charge each time a customer requests reissuance, Japan Post President Masaharu Ikuta told a news conference.
The measure is expected to save the postal entity about 800 million yen a year, Japan Post officials said.
Commercial banks at present charge customers 1,000 yen for the reissuance of cards.
