Japanese Communist Party leader Kazuo Shii was admitted to a Tokyo hospital Friday night due to a cold, a JCP official said Monday.
Shii, a 49-year-old House of Representatives member, only has a fever and his condition is not serious, JCP Secretariat head Tadayoshi Ichida said.
Ichida said the hospitalization is not expected to last long.
If Shii cannot give speeches or attend party meetings ahead of the July House of Councilors election, Ichida said he himself or JCP Central Committee Chairman Tetsuzo Fuwa will fill in.
