Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp., mired in a defect coverup scandal, have been barred from bidding for police orders for 11 months, the National Police Agency said Friday.
According to the NPA, police forces across Japan currently own about 800 large vehicles manufactured by Mitsubishi, 97 of which have been subject to a Mitsubishi Fuso recall connected to defective wheel hubs.
The agency will not purchase their products during the period. "They are dishonest and inappropriate as contract partners," an agency official said.
Police last week arrested seven former Mitsubishi Motors officials in connection with a fatal accident in Yokohama in 2002 involving a defective hub.
