Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki plans to promote Koichi Hosokawa and Hiroshi Watanabe to the two top bureaucratic posts within the ministry, sources said Thursday.

Hosokawa will serve as vice minister, while Watanabe will serve as vice minister for international affairs, the sources said.

Tanigaki will officially rubber-stamp the appointments after the current Diet session closes in June, the sources said.

Hosokawa, director general of the ministry's Budget Bureau, will replace Vice Finance Minister Masakazu Hayashi, they said.

Watanabe, director general of the International Bureau, will take over from Vice Finance Minister for International Affairs Zembei Mizoguchi, they said.
